About Marina Beatty, LCMHCA

Marina Beatty, LCMHCA

Hi! I'm Marina & I’m so glad you’re here. In my practice I strive to create a space that is radically genuine and welcoming of people from a diverse range of backgrounds. I believe that therapy is most effective when you really ‘click’ with the person across from you— which is why I think it’s only fair you get to know a little bit about me before diving in.

I am an EMT-B and an active member of the Watauga County Rescue Squad, as well as a professional ski patroller in the winters. I enjoy serving my community while challenging myself to grow, and have sought additional specialized training in Mountain Search and Rescue, Swift Water Rescue, and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and Debriefing (CISD). My involvement in EMS from a young age revealed to me a distinct gap in mental health services; both for community members and first responders themselves. I began engaging in research at Appalachian State University with a focus on suicide prevention, before graduating with my Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology.

Education & Training

I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Vermont and am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) in the state of North Carolina. While in Vermont I gained clinical experience as an intern at Meridian DBT & Psychotherapy Services, where I offered both individual and group therapy to individuals aged 13+. It is there where I found great satisfaction supporting other members of the LGBTQ+ community in exploring their identity and navigating relational challenges faced with family and community. While I went north for my graduate studies, North Carolina is where I call home and I am so happy to be back.

A Personal Note

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my friends, my partner, and my pets (Kota & Kitty). I’m an outdoorsman at heart, and am always looking for opportunities to hike, backpack, snowboard, or fly fish for trout. If you haven’t caught onto this already, I rarely sit still and love doing things creatively with my hands, often working on small woodworking projects, collages, or other artistic endeavors.
